Education at the Physical optics chair

Physical optics chair of the Physical faculty trains specialists according to higher education levels: Bachelor's, Master's and Ph.D. degrees in the specialty '104 — Physics and Astronomy'. In the education process students and post-graduates conduct scientific studies under supervision of either chair's professors or external supervisors (usually from scientific institutions) with counseling of chair's professors.

  • Bachelor's degree applicants begin education at the chair after finishing the two initial years of education at the Physical faculty in the case they chose to study at the Physical optics chair in the end of the 2nd year. Educational program of the 3rd and 4th year includes both general courses of the faculty and special courses of the chair: lectures, laboratory workshops and computer classes. Number of the chair's courses is increased during 4th year. During the 8th term students take on-the-job practice and undergraduate practice, the latter without interruption in studies. Education finishes with public defense of students' qualifying works for Bachelor's degree in the end of the 4th academic year.
  • Master's degree applicants begin education at the chair from the beginning. Education on this level is based on Bachelor's or Specialist's degree of a physical profile. Courses at this level are usually combinations of lectures, laboratory workshops and practical lessons. Educating is performed according to three programs:
    • Educational-professional program «Physics» lasts for 1 year and 4 months (referred to as 1.5-year program). Besides taking courses, students take assistant practice during 2nd term, on-the-job practice during 3rd term (both interrupt the studies) and an undergraduate practice during 3rd term (without interruption). Education finishes with public defense of students' qualifying works for Master's degree in December of 2nd academic year.
    • Educational-scientific program «Physics» lasts for 1 year and 9 months (referred to as 2-year program). Besides taking courses, students take assistant practice during 2nd term, on-the-job practice during 3rd term (both interrupt the studies) and an undergraduate practice during 4th term (without interruption). Education finishes with public defense of students' qualifying works for Master's degree in May of 2nd academic year.
    • Educational-professional program «Physics and Astronomy in Educational Institutions» lasts for 1 year and 4 months. For students who took it, there is a special course given at the chair during 2nd term.
  • During post-graduate studies, Ph.D. degree applicants of the Physical department take a number of lecture courses including the two courses given by professors of the Physical optics chair.
